Peter Hammill-Thin Air-2009-ONe Thin Air is Peter Hammill's twenty-ninth solo album of original songs and follows an eventful few years (a heart attack in December 2003 and a hugely successful Van der Graaf Generator reunion in 2004). Singularity, his last solo work, was released in 2006 and was seen as Peter's most innovative and important release since his late 70s/early 80s masterpieces, The Future Now and A Black Box.  It seems strange that folks like Ray Wylie Hubbard once lived such wild lives but have been able to make solid comebacks later in life. Strange, because Hubbard, on Delirium Tremolos, sounds as good as he ever has. Better yet, the album has a nice, mellow country sound, and Hubbard has discarded, for the time being, his penchant for preachy, comic songs. It doesn't hurt that the album's been produced by Gurf Morlix, nor that he's joined by great harmony singers like Patty Griffin and Eliza Gilkyson. 
 
 Hubbard's choice of songs are solid too, combining deep but real lyrics ("And the rock and roll gypsies are ridin' tonight/ On the carnival strips they'll stay") with good melodies and hooks. The first three songs, "The Beauty Way," "Rock and Roll Gypsies," and "Dallas After Midnight," are all keepers, and a beautiful start to a solid album. Other good songs include "This Mornin' I Am Born Again," a gospel-flavored hymn that even pagans should dig. Delirium Tremolos only runs 45 minutes, which means that Hubbard and Morlix resisted the temptation to fill the disc with less than satisfactory material. Roots fans and anyone who enjoys good songwriting will want to pick up a copy.

             Although it went platinum, Fair Warning didn't match the
             multi-platinum standards of Van Halen's first three     
             records, so the group revamped their sound slightly for 
             the follow-up, Diver Down. Adding the slightest hints of
             synthesizers and streamlining both the guitar           
             indulgences of Eddie Van Halen and the vocal excesses of
             David Lee Roth, the album contained some of the group's 
             most pop-oriented performances — and they were all in   
             the guise of covers. "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and "Dancing in
             the Street" had the traditional mechanical Van Halen    
             rhythmic pulse, as well as concise solos from Eddie and 
             restrained vocals from Diamond Dave, which helped them  
             become the hits they were designed to be. If they were  
             offset by more original material like "Hang 'Em High,"  
             the concessions would have been acceptable, but the rest
             of Diver Down is filled with covers, including "Big Bad 
             Bill," "Where Have All the Good Times Gone," and a      
             closing "Happy Trails." All of the songs are            
             professionally performed, and the music features more   
             ideas than most previous Van Halen albums, but the lack 
             of strong original material makes Diver Down less of an 
             accomplishment than it appears.                         
                                                                     
             Part of a 6CD reissue and remastering by Warner under   
             the Warner Remasters series involving the entire        
             David-Lee Roth era of Van Halen, "Diver Down" will    
             undeniably leave the listener with thoughts             
             of "what-if" Roth had stayed with Van Halen instead of  
             splitting....oh, and the quality - well that should     
             speak for itself....Enjoy!

           aAF was created in Jan 2001 to fill a void left in the scene
           by groups who would refuse to release anything but current
           year music.Well since that time we have been rocking the
           scene with classic rock rips.We have made classic music
           mainstream in the scene and have been on top in that area as
           the number one group in classic rips. We finished 2001 with
           3800 rips.As we moved forward in 2002 we found we were also
           releasing alot of quality 2k2 rips and saw that we were competing
           in that area.In 2002 we finished with over 5000 rips.In 2003 we
           plan to move forward and continue to release "THE NEW STUFF" and
           strive to be on top in 2k3 rips.We will also continue to remain
           on top like we have for 2 years in the classic rock scene.
