The first disc consists of new material while disc two is a live album. The new studio material finds many of the old UFO sounds and trademarks, but is perhaps a bit rawer, both in terms of production and performance. In many ways, the new tracks feel a lot like they might have been leftovers from the previous CD, the brilliant Walk on Water. This one should certainly please longtime fans of the band, but probably is not a good introduction to the group. The lineup this time out is veteran drummer Aynsley Dunbar, guitar hero Michael Schenker, and vocalist Phil Mogg.

There#39;s not a single origina! l riff on all of their first full album, Nobody Said It Was Ea! sy, mind you, but the band#39;s raunchy guitars and gritty delivery make up for this in spades. And had he not been arrested seemingly every six months for one misdemeanor or another, outlaw frontman Frank Starr may have even challenged Axl Rose for his quot;king of the bad boysquot; crown.br br Starr#39;s whiskey and broken glass vocal style literally ignites the album#39;s best moments, including the title track, quot;Can#39;t Stop Rockin#39;,quot; and the incredible quot;Rockin#39; Is Ma#39; Business.quot; And while quot;Hot Head lifts its main riff directly from AC/DC#39;s quot;Rock#39;n#39;Roll Damnation, quot; the slightly more original quot;Tired Wingsquot; actually received some MTV rotation thanks to its mellower Southern rock vibe and slide guitars. br br Rounded out by the easy strut of quot;Moonshine, quot; the all-out fury of quot;Lookin#39; for Trouble, quot; and the lazy jamming of quot;I Need a Thrill/Somethin#39; Good, quot; this album scores low on originality, but hig! h on honesty and charisma. Five years on from their simplistic but infectious retro-rock debut, they#39;d been dropped by Def American, been abandoned by their main songwriter guiding force in founding guitarist Haggis, and, most heartbreaking of all, lost drummer Ken quot;Dimwitquot; Montgomery to a drug overdose. As the band#39;s last remaining original members, it came down to guitarist Dave Lizmi and troubled singer Frank C. Starr (more on him later) to assemble a new lineup and attempt to shoulder the load themselves on the snidely named Gettin#39; Pretty Good at Barely Gettin#39; By. And they did an OK job.br br The album still featured much of the Four Horsemen#39;s stripped-down, hard-rocking style, but standout cuts such as quot;Hot Rodquot; and the poignant quot;Song for Absent Friendsquot; generally lacked the Southern Skynyrd flavor, and especially the power boogie AC/DC crunch of old. ! Instead, the album mostly resorted to a mellower, more soulful! , decide dly sleeker Black Crowes-type groove for tracks like the title song and quot;Drunk Againquot; (note background lady singers). A few songs also forced the quot;we#39;re still rockin#39;#39;#39; storyline ad nauseam (see cheesy opener quot;Still Alive and Wellquot; and the edgier, frankly biographical quot;Back in Business Againquot;), while others simply lacked originality (for example, quot;Livin#39; These Blues, quot; which apes the debut#39;s hit, quot;Tired Wings, quot; a tad too closely).br br Still, the fact that#39;s it#39;s clearly inferior compared to its predecessor shouldn#39;t entirely detract from this album#39;s good-time blue-collar rock amp; roll, and fans of the Horsemen will likely want to give it a chance anyway. Sadly, Gettin#39; Pretty Good at Barely Gettin#39; By proved to be the final musical testament for singer Starr, who passed away under tragic circumstances a few years later. :D br br div style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px" div style="margin-bottom:2p! x"Code:/div hrcode style="margin:0px" dir="ltr"br /codehr /divdiv style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px" div style="margin-bottom:2px"Code:/div hrcode style="margin:0px" dir="ltr"Pass: tiger/codehr /div/div

Û
Û Few bands warrant, let alone deserve, a three-volume retrospective. Rush,
Û however, make the case. As a concern, Rush are still going strong -- perhaps
Û stronger than ever as a live attraction -- and their studio albums in the
Û 21st century have been as heavy as anything they've ever cut, and very
Û consistent in terms of quality. Rush have issued many compilations, but this
Û makes three that bear the title Retrospective. The first volume covered the
Û years 1974-1980, which addressed the period between their self-titled debut
Û long-player and Permanent Waves; the second covered 1981-1987, bookmarked by
Û the recordings Moving Pictures and Hold Your Fire; and this set covering
Û 1989-2007 tracks the full-lengths Presto through Snakes & Arrows. Taken as a
Û whole, these three CDs provide an excellent overview of a band that has
Û continued to develop its sound, push its own boundaries, and remain timeless
Û without concessions to trends or music biz nonsense. This third volume is on
Û its surface the most unspectacular of the three, but appearances -- in this
Û case at least -- prove deceptive. Arranged aesthetically rather than
Û chronologically, Retrospective, Vol. 3 has been assembled to play through as
Û an album. There are two tracks from each of the seven albums documented here,
Û including "One Little Victory" and "Earthshine," both from the acclaimed
Û return to hard-edged rock of Vapor Trails in 2002. In addition, there is a
Û live version of "Ghost of a Chance," from 1991's controversial but underrated
Û Roll the Bones. But what really transpires through this listen is the feeling
Û that Rush are still very much a band; they reached the end of a lull only to
Û get hungry again, reached for a new zenith, and shook off the complacency of
Û their position as a ponderous and progressive veteran stadium juggernaut. In
Û turn, they became a taut, wily rock & roll band again, putting on epic shows
Û and creating thought-provoking, ass-shaking hard rock records. This is the
Û latest evidence. Here's hoping there is a Retrospective, Vol. 4.
Û
Û Enjoy.
Û
Û Don't forget to support the artists! We did.

By comparison, guitarist Pat Thrall had worked on several albums with Automatic Man and Pat Travers. Thrall had come to Hughes' attention while he was trying to write new material in Los Angeles. The two got together and quickly struck up a working partnership. The result was the Hughes/Thrall album. Hughes/Thrall mar! ks a return to hard rock for Hughes, the album itself has a de! finite A OR sound, but with influences of new-wave and post-punk. Thrall makes good use of guitar synthesizers and many have cited the album as being quite influential to the direction of rock music in the 80s and it was critically well received upon its release. However, despite the positive reception from critics the album failed to sell well at the time. It has since become something of a cult album. Along with Hughes and Thrall the album also featured keyboardist Peter Schless and drummers Gary Ferguson (who went on to work on many of Hughes' albums in the 90s and 00s), Frankie Banali of W.A.S.P. and Quiet Riot fame and prolific session player Gary Mallaber. The album was co-produced and mixed by Andy Johns, who had previously worked with the likes of Led Zeppelin, Free and The Rolling Stones. The song Coast to Coast had originally featured on the T ze album You Are the Music...We're Just the Band; the version on the Hughes/Thrall album is similar in arrangement to the original! . Promotional videos were shot for the songs The Look in Your Eyes and Muscle and Blood, these received some airplay on music channels at their time of release. In January 2007 the album was reissued. This new version featured the original album, fully remastered as well as two bonus tracks, both outtakes from the original sessions. The first bonus track, Still The Night originally featured on the first Phenomena album, which featured Hughes, but not Thrall, another version appeared on the John Norum album Face the Truth, again featuring Hughes. This is the first time the original version has been released. An immediate follow up to the Hughes/Thrall album was planned and some tracks were written and demoed, however the project did not go any further and the album was scrapped. In 2006 it was announced that a follow-up album was being written and recorded and is due for release in 2008. ............. Friggin dogs bolox this is :woop: :thum: Code:Code: Pass: tiger

UFO - UFO (UFO 1) 1971-1999 flac+cue+art | 251 MB RS | Remastered For diehard UFO fans, this is the begining of the band, and the start of a hard rock story that endures to this day. This album is a product of the times in which it was created, the echoes of the sixties were fading, and the violence and upheaval of the seventies were on the horizon, and UFO was there to create some sounds that were different than the peace and love era, and a preview of things to come. With the first incarnation of this band, they delivered some solid tunes, "Timothy" is a great tribute to the orginal guru of the acid days, "Boogie" is a solid rockin tune as well, all the songs are cool, and this is a must have album for the collector, and a good intro to the band before they became the icons of the area shows of the seventies during the Michael era. Give it a listen, and turn on, tune in, and drop out back to a time when the winds of change were a coming.
