"The post-Forever Changes recordings that Love and Arthur Lee did in the late '60s and early '70s will forever be a point of contention among fans. Some contend that he and the group never neared the heights of the LPs by the pre-1968 lineups; others find the post-1967 discs to be high-quality hard rock. The material on Love Lost, a 14-track collection of previously unreleased music the band cut for Columbia in 1971, isn't likely to change many people's minds on these scores. Even judged on its own merits rather than against the earlier Love , however, it's not something fated to be hailed as all that impressive, even if it does fill in an intriguing gap in their recording career. To begin with, it should be noted that while all of these tracks are previously unissued, some of the songs did emerge in different versions on Lee's 1972 solo album Vindicator and the 1975 Love long-player Reel to Real, with different versions of yet others appearing on an unreleased (but bootl! egged) album done in the early '70s, Black Beauty. Love's brief association with Columbia thus found them using approaches similar to those found on the aforementioned records, more often than not wedding rather routine hard rock to Lee's sometimes (but not always) idiosyncratic lyrics and song structures. Yet as even Michael Simmons' excellent liner notes acknowledge, the Columbia sessions were on the loose and undisciplined side. These tracks don't find the late Love at their best, and could have used more finely honed songwriting and sharper playing.

1984 (written as MCMLXXXIV on the front cover) is the sixth album by American hard rock band Van Halen. One of the band's more popular albums, 1984 is the final album featuring singer David Lee Roth before he left the band in the spring of the following year...

Ancient Grease: Women and ren FirstEAC | ROCK | FLAC+CUE, LOG + Cover | 334 MBLabel: Free Records | Release: 2003 | ue No: 20147 | HFRSAncient Grease is a clever moniker for a band, although Strawberry Dust were rather baffled to find themselves so named on their 1970 debut album, Women and ren First. Dusts reputation as a rousing live act was already cemented by several years of plying cover songs around the South Wales club circuit, which is where drummer John Weathers came across them. Impressed, he oversaw their demo, which landed Dust a deal at Mercury, then co-wrote, arranged, and co-produced their full-length. And thus begins the Racing Cars story, for Dust/Grease featured both the bands future frontman, Gareth Morty Mortimer, and guitarist, Graham Williams. However, this album is very much a of its time, only hinting at whats to come. Its a heady mixture of pub rock, hard-rocking RB, blues, psychedelia, and San Francisco prog rock, with nods to the British hard! rock scene along the way, Dust/Grease hit just about every musical touchstone of their day. Incidentally, Weathers Eyes of Blue bandmate, Phil Ryan, provides the fabulous keyboard work on the gorgeous Where the Snow Lies Forever, the genre-bending Odd Song, and presumably the rest of the album, although no keyboardist is actually credited.upload[/b] the file if I can![/i][/center]

Hard Rock
Though Status Quo is best known for fast and undistinguished hard rock, they were quite capable of subtlety when it suited them. Despite the name, most of the music on Quos fifth album, Piledriver, is varied and subtle enough to be interesting. The power rock and roll is indeed there, as represented by crowd-pleasers like Dont Waste My Time and Paper Plane, but so also are quieter, softer pieces with acoustic textures and progressive structures. The melancholy A Year is a standout track, a stark, melancholy song about carrying on after a loved one has died. The soft rock intro gradually shifts to a more powerful guitar piece in a way that is reminiscent of early Fleetwood Mac and has that bands delicate sense of dynamics. Elsewhere on Piledriver the band turns in a very credible slow blues piece and a folk-inflected duet for 12-string guitars. Still, most of the Status Quo fans wanted power rock, and the band obliged with one of their best pieces, the tempo-shifting Big Fat ! Mama, which actually managed some U.S. airplay, though no actual chart position. The album rounds off with a heavy version of The Doors Roadhouse Blues. On the whole Piledriver is an enjoyable listen, one that has aged better than much other hard rock from this period. Richard Foss, All Music Guide
Includes bonus track Dont Waste My Time (Live at the 1973 Reading Festival).

Atomic Roooster - Atomic RooosterEAC | ROCK | FLAC+CUE, LOG + Cover,Booklet | 469 MBLabel:Sanctuary | Release: 2004 | ue No: 186822| HFRSOf the 15 songs and 72 minutes of these BBC sessions from 1970 to 1981, it's good news for discriminating fans that, with the exception of three 1981 tracks, everything is from 1970 through 1972, the most interesting era of Atomic Rooster. It isn't such good news, perhaps, that the version of their 1971 British hit "Devil's Answer" is one of those 1981 tracks, although at least the lineup on that performance — Vincent Crane, Paul Hammond, and John DuCann — is the same as the trio that comprised the Rooster during part of the early '70s. Crane, in fact, is the only musician to appear on every song. The styles drift from keyboard-dominated hard rock with similarities to his previous work in the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, through messy hybrids of metal and prog (and, when Chris Farlowe took lead vocals, some soul and funk) that become ! increasingly tedious as the disc progresses.

This two-disc offering from hard rock guitarist Joe Satriani encompasses a two-hour concert, a 45-minute documentary with plenty of additional live footage, and various other bonus material that includes still more playing. Put it all together and Satriani Live! offers a good three hours' worth of fast and furious fretwork--in other words, a whole lotta notes (hard to say how many, exactly; like the size of the universe or the number of atoms in the human body, it's a figure that's difficult to calculate and nigh on impossible for the finite mind to fathom).
